How to Change Sensitive Content Settings on X

Start with the setting that matches the problem

If you are trying to control your feed, begin with viewing preferences. If the issue appears only in search, inspect the search filter. If your own uploads need a warning, use the posting controls. Changing one is not a reliable way to fix another.

Review viewing and search preferences

In Privacy and safety, open Content you see and inspect the sensitive-media preference. X’s safety guidance describes a control for displaying potentially sensitive media and a separate search setting for hiding it in search results. Choose the level of filtering you want.

Return to the original context after making a change: the feed if that was the issue, or search if that was the issue. This makes it easier to tell whether you changed the relevant preference instead of repeatedly toggling unrelated controls.

Three situations that need different fixes

Suppose a post is visible in your feed but absent from a search result. Start with the search filter and the search itself. Its absence does not establish that the account’s publishing label is wrong.

If media you uploaded carries a warning, inspect the post or account notice and your outgoing-media setting. Turning on a viewing preference changes your experience; it does not establish that other readers should see the upload without a warning.

If the message describes an age restriction, follow that account process. A generic checklist that sends everyone through the same toggles ignores the information X has already supplied.

Understand why a viewing preference may not be enough

X restricts marked adult content for viewers under 18 and for viewers without a birth date on their profile. Its age-assurance process may also affect access. A preference toggle does not cancel those account restrictions.

If X has estimated your age incorrectly, use its official support or challenge process. Follow the information request shown to your account. Changing unrelated settings or repeatedly reinstalling the app does not establish your eligibility.

Troubleshoot with the exact notice

Write down whether the issue is a warning you can choose to view, unavailable media, or an account-level notice. Also note whether it happens in the feed, search, or on your own upload. Those details make a support request much more useful than “sensitive content is broken.”

For a team account, document the publishing policy internally. Someone changing the label on outgoing media should know what the account normally posts and why the setting exists. Keep personal viewing preferences separate from that editorial decision.

For a clear support note, record the date, device, app or browser version if available, the menu you checked, and the exact notice. Describe one example without sending unnecessary sensitive media or private account details. That gives support a reproducible question instead of a list of settings changed at random.

Once the viewing issue is resolved, return to the publishing decision separately. A founder demonstrating software usually needs a readable, appropriately redacted example, not a change to every media setting on the account. Choose the smallest change that addresses the actual task.
