Twitter Profile Picture Size
The X profile picture is 400 x 400 pixels, max 2MB. See how your photo comes across in the circle before you upload it.
Runs in your browser. Your photo is never uploaded.
How it works
- 1
Drop in a photo. Or tap to pick one on your phone. Any size works.
- 2
Read the verdict. One line tells you if it is big enough, too small, too heavy for X, or if part of it will be cropped off.
- 3
Check it where people see it. The photo shows in the circle at the real sizes X uses: on your profile, next to a post and at its smallest. If it needs a fix, download a 400 x 400 square.

| Smallest | 24 px | Mentions, lists and small cards |
Upload size, file size and formats from X Help, uploading a profile photo and X Help, customizing your profile, checked October 2026. X does not publish the on-screen sizes; they are measured from the current x.com layout and can change. For the banner behind it, use the Twitter header size tool.
What it does not do
- It does not edit. No zoom, filters or background removal: it shows what X will show.
- It previews the center of the photo. When you upload, X lets you move and zoom the square yourself.
- It does not change your profile on X. You upload the photo yourself in Edit profile.
Twitter profile picture size: common questions
- What is the Twitter profile picture size in 2026?
- X recommends 400 x 400 pixels for the profile photo, with a maximum file size of 2MB, in JPG, PNG or GIF. Checked against X's help center in October 2026.
- Why is my Twitter profile picture cropped?
- X shows the profile photo as a circle cut from a square. A wide or tall photo loses its sides or top and bottom first, then the circle hides the four corners. Keep your face in the middle, with some space around it.
- Why does my profile picture look blurry on X?
- Usually because it is too small. Your avatar shows at about 134 pixels on your profile, which needs about 268 real pixels on a sharp phone or laptop screen. Anything under that gets stretched. Upload at least 400 x 400.
- Can my X profile picture be a GIF?
- A still GIF works. X does not support animated GIFs for profile photos, so an animated file shows as a single frame or fails to upload.
- Does this tool upload my photo?
- No. The photo is read and shown in your browser, and nothing is sent to ClimbX. The 400 x 400 download is made on your device too. You upload it to X yourself in Edit profile.
