What Postiz is, and why people are talking about it

Postiz schedules posts to more than a dozen networks: X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Reddit, Discord, Bluesky, Mastodon and more (Postiz pricing). The code is on GitHub under AGPL-3.0, with about 38,000 stars on October 25, 2026. You can run it yourself with Docker or pay for the hosted Cloud version.

Postiz has shipped several releases this month. Version 2.25.0 on October 2 added comments on post previews and a self-hosted connector, so AI assistants like Claude can schedule through your own instance (release notes). Version 2.25.1 on October 11 fixed a medium-severity issue where some API responses exposed channel tokens and the organization API key (advisory). Versions 2.25.2 and 2.25.3 on October 23 and 24 fixed more security issues, and each asks every user to upgrade (releases). New agent features, a run of security fixes and the October 21 outage are why people are comparing their options.

Pro$49$39/mo30
Ultimate$99$79/mo100

All plans include unlimited posts, the API, the MCP server and a 7-day free trial. There is no free Cloud plan. The free option is self-hosting.

What self-hosting Postiz actually involves

Free software still takes time and money to run. The Postiz README and docs list the work that comes with the open-source edition:

From git clone to your first scheduled post
  1. 1
    Server
Docker on a VPS; tested on 2 GB RAM, 2 vCPUs
  2. 2
    Services
    Postgres, Redis, storage and Temporal
  3. 3
    Developer apps
Your own app per network, with its approval
  4. 4
    Updates
Pull new images and run migrations yourself
From the Postiz GitHub README and Docker Compose docs, checked October 25, 2026.

Most people underestimate the developer apps. For X, Postiz’s X setup guide has you create an app in the X developer portal and paste its keys into your config. The X API is now pay-per-use, and X’s pricing docs list $0.015 per post and $0.200 per post with a URL. That is small at 60 posts a month. But it is a second bill, and link posts cost about 13 times more.

The 5 Postiz alternatives, one by one

#1 · Free, or $299 once

Mixpost

The closest match if self-hosting is the reason you chose Postiz.

1
Pick it if

You want posts and tokens on your own server and prefer a one-time license to a subscription.

Skip it if

You need Instagram, LinkedIn or TikTok for free; those are Pro only. Or you do not want to run a server.

Mixpost Lite is MIT-licensed on GitHub and covers Facebook Pages, X and Mastodon. Pro is $299 once for one domain with unlimited accounts, workspaces and users, and adds Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, Threads, Bluesky and more. Enterprise is $1,199 once and lets you resell it as a SaaS. Both include a year of updates, and renewal is optional (Mixpost pricing). Mixpost is built on Laravel, so it suits people who already run PHP hosting.

#2 · Free, or $5/channel/mo

Buffer

The simple hosted option when you are done running servers.

2
Pick it if

A solo founder posting to three or four networks who wants nothing to maintain.

Skip it if

You connect many channels; per-channel pricing adds up faster than Postiz’s 5-channel plan.

The free plan covers 3 channels, including X, with 10 scheduled posts per channel at a time and one threaded post. Essentials is $5 a month per channel billed yearly, and Team is $10 per channel with unlimited users (Buffer pricing). It also has an API, so AI agents can still post through it.

#3 · From $5/mo

Publer

The lowest paid price for a hosted multi-network scheduler that includes X.

3
Pick it if

You want threads, first comments and recycling across networks for a few dollars per account.

Skip it if

You want X on a free plan; Publer’s free plan excludes X.

Professional starts at $5 a month for one social account ($4 billed yearly) and adds X, threads and unlimited scheduling. Business starts at $10 and adds analytics, best times to post, post recycling and the API and MCP server. Every tenth account or member is free (Publer’s plans article, updated September 15, 2026, and Publer plans).

#4 · Free, or $99/yr

Typefully

A writing-first scheduler for text networks, not a dashboard for every channel.

4
Pick it if

You mostly write posts and threads for X and LinkedIn and want a clean editor.

Skip it if

You schedule video to TikTok, YouTube or Instagram; Typefully does not cover them.

Free covers 10 posts a month. Creator is $99 a year, annual billing only, and Business is $18 a month per social set billed yearly (Typefully pricing, checked October 3, 2026). It publishes to X, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky and Mastodon. Our Typefully alternatives post covers it in more depth.

#5 · $29/mo

ClimbX

Not a Postiz replacement for every network. A growth tool for people whose audience is on X.

5
Pick it if

A founder or creator who used Postiz mainly for X and wants help deciding what to post, not only when.

Skip it if

You post to other networks, want open source or self-hosting, or need to schedule link posts. ClimbX is X only, closed source, and blocks scheduling posts with links.

ClimbX is our product. It learns your voice from your past posts and drafts new ones. It fills a posting calendar based on what worked for accounts a few times your size in your niche. It schedules the posts and threads you have reviewed. Nothing goes out without your edit. Link posts are blocked from scheduling because links can cut reach on X by 50 to 90 percent. You post those yourself. 7-day trial for $1 (ClimbX pricing).

When to stay on Postiz

Switching has a cost too. Postiz is still the better fit in these cases:

Stay on Postiz if

  • You want open source with every network included, not only the three in Mixpost Lite.
  • You already run Docker and keep your instance updated.
  • You post to more than 5 channels. Postiz Team covers 10 for $31 a month billed yearly, and per-channel tools cost more at that size.
  • Your AI agents schedule through its MCP server, CLI or API, which every Postiz plan includes.
  • You need video networks like TikTok, YouTube and Instagram Reels next to X.

If your main network is X, compare options built only for it. We list six, with prices, in the best Twitter scheduler guide. The free way to do it inside X is in how to schedule posts and threads on X.

Frequently asked questions

Is Postiz free?

The open-source edition is free to self-host under the AGPL-3.0 license, but you pay for the server and set up your own developer app on each network. Postiz Cloud has no free plan: it starts at $29 a month ($23 a month billed yearly) for 5 channels, with a 7-day free trial.

What is the best open-source alternative to Postiz?

Mixpost. Its Lite edition is MIT-licensed and free, and covers Facebook Pages, X and Mastodon. Mixpost Pro adds Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Bluesky and more for a one-time $299, but Pro is source-available rather than open source.

What is the cheapest Postiz alternative?

For one X account, Publer Professional starts at $5 a month ($4 billed yearly) and Buffer Essentials is $5 a month per channel billed yearly. Buffer’s free plan also covers 3 channels, including X, with 10 scheduled posts each. Publer’s free plan does not include X.

Does self-hosted Postiz cost anything on X?

You connect X through your own X developer app, and the X API is now pay-per-use. X’s developer docs list $0.015 per post and $0.200 per post with a URL, billed to your developer account. On Postiz Cloud you use their app instead.

Is Postiz safe to self-host?

Postiz publishes its security advisories on GitHub and ships fixes quickly. Version 2.25.1, released October 11, 2026, fixed a medium-severity issue that exposed channel tokens and the organization API key in some API responses. Versions 2.25.2 and 2.25.3 followed on October 23 and 24 with more security fixes. If you self-host, you pull new images and run migrations yourself, so update promptly.

Was Postiz down in October 2026?

Yes. Postiz Cloud went offline for all customers on the evening of October 21, 2026, after a security incident at Railway, the platform it runs on. The founder rotated its keys overnight and Postiz was back the next morning. Its status page marked the incident resolved on October 22 and says no user data was affected or breached.

Is Hypefury a Postiz alternative for X?

Not anymore. Hypefury’s own pricing FAQ says it no longer supports X. It covers Bluesky, Threads, LinkedIn, Instagram and TikTok.

Grow on X, not just post to it.

ClimbX drafts posts in your voice from what worked for accounts a few times your size, and schedules the ones you approve. X only, by design.
