X engagement bait checker

Asking once is not against the X Rules. Asking again and again is where it costs you. X’s Original Content Rewards rules say creators must not “solicit engagements: repeatedly instructing users to engage with posts, such as asking to like, reply, bookmark, follow, or repost”. Accounts that do can be removed from creator payouts.

Swapping engagement with other accounts is a separate problem. X’s authenticity policy bans coordinating to exchange likes, replies, reposts or follows, and its penalties include restricted reach.

   Paste your draft. The checker scans it for instructions to like, reply, repost, follow, bookmark or tag, and for networking posts.

   See each ask highlighted. Everyday uses of the same words, like "posts like this", are left alone. Only instructions to the reader count.

   Rewrite the flagged lines. Each type of ask comes with what to write instead. One ask now and then is fine; stacking them is the pattern to avoid.

• X does not publish a phrase list. The checker flags the asks X’s own rules name, which is a guide, not a ruling.
• It reads English only and cannot judge intent. A playful one-off ask and a habit look the same in a single post.
• It checks one draft. Whether you ask repeatedly is about your whole feed, so look at your last 10 posts too.

What is engagement bait on X?

A post whose main job is to ask for engagement: "like if you agree", "RT this", "follow me for more", "drop your handle below", "tag a friend". The ask replaces the substance, so the post gets reactions without giving the reader anything.

Does X penalize engagement bait?

For creator payouts, yes. X’s Original Content Rewards rules say creators must not solicit engagement by repeatedly instructing users to like, reply, bookmark, follow or repost, and accounts that do can be removed from the program. Coordinating engagement swaps with other accounts is separately against X’s authenticity policy, which lists restricted reach among its penalties.

Can I ask people to follow me on X?

Occasionally, yes. X’s payout rules target repeated asking, not a single call to action. A good habit is to keep posts built around an ask to about 1 in 5, and let your bio and pinned post do the rest.

Is "Thoughts?" engagement bait?

Not under X’s rules, and this checker marks it as a generic closer rather than an ask. It just rarely works. A specific question the reader can answer from their own experience gets far more replies.

Will engagement bait get me removed from X monetization?

Repeatedly soliciting engagement is listed as a reason X can temporarily or permanently remove an account from Original Content Rewards, depending on severity. One ask in an otherwise useful post is a different thing from asking in every post.
